About West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH)
WLMH has been caring for West Niagara residents for over 70 years. As a community hospital, WLMH provides both inpatient services and outpatient services. As a site of Hamilton Health Sciences, WLMH also serves as a point of access to one of the largest health systems in Canada for patients requiring more specialized care.
Need for Redevelopment
The growth of West Niagara and the advancement of modern health care technology has outpaced the physical infrastructure of WLMH, originally built in 1946. While our staff and physicians have made do with the space they have, a modernized facility will support both the community’s needs and the workforce’s ability to provide exceptional care.
The Project
The West Lincoln Memorial Hospital redevelopment project is currently in construction phase. Ground was broken on the new hospital mid-2022, which is being built directly behind the existing building to provide continuity for patient care during construction.
The new facility will feature:
-
- 55 inpatient beds; 6 maternal/newborn suites; 8 bassinets
- Increase in operating rooms: 3 operating rooms and one procedure room
- Single-patient rooms will enhance patient care, experience and ability to meet infection control standards
- Increasing the hospital’s size by almost 80 per cent
- Easier access to the hospital for community and staff with increased parking capacity
- Home to signature programs, including but not limited to: an Emergency Department; Diagnostic Imaging; Complex Continuing Care; Acute Inpatient Care; Maternal & Newborn; Day Surgery & Endoscopy; and Ambulatory Care
